Dialogue on September 15 with the young artists
The Mayor one hour only for the youth!
The Exhibition "pics4peace - Youth for Democracy and Peace" moves directly after the town hall to the municipal library. "pics4peace" aims to inspire young people to get involved in shaping their future, to give them a platform for expression through art and modern media, and to make their wishes for the future heard by decision-makers in politics and society. The initiative was launched by former mayor Dr. Pia Beckmann.
The exhibition will feature large-format art works by young artists. The renowned Berlin painter, photographer and installation artist Winfried Muthesius taught ten Designers from the FHWS his "pittura oscura" method, which involves layering over layers. Not only different techniques, such as painting and photography are used, but also layers of time and meaning layered on top of each other.
Past, present and future condensed in a single art work
Inspired by historically significant Würzburg locations, the young artists created works that they then took to these places and related to them. They captured the tension between artwork and place in a photograph. Printed out, this in turn served as a template for further artistic exploration, for example by painting over it. Finally, the work was again reproduced photographically. In this way, the young artists condensed into one work of art the challenges of the present with the past and developed perspectives for their future. Anja Flicker, Director of the municipal library, sees the exhibition as "a great example of social engagement by young people."
Get in contact with the artists - And get creative yourself
The exhibition can be seen from August 7 to September 15, during the library's opening hours. In addition, on September 15 during the "Long Night of Democracy" there will be the opportunity to get to know the works of the young artists of the "pics4peace" project from 3:15 to 4:45 p.m. as well as to get creative yourself at the Democracy Café and put your ideas for Würzburg, Bavaria and Germany on paper.
Tell the mayor what's going on
pics4peace specifically seeks dialog between young people and politics: Mayor Christian Schuchardt is also very interested in this. He will therefore also be in the municipal library on September 15 and will hold a consultation hour from 1 to 2 p.m. just for young people and young adults, so that they can also present their concerns to him in person.
Online it continues
"pics4peace online" will launch on October 10, 2018, when everyone between 16 and 26 is invited to express oneselve about the future in the form of expression that suits her or him most and through the medium they usually use: Painting, photography, graffiti, writing poetry, making video clips, or making music - all are invited. The young people are called upon to show in their contribution what is important to them for their future, for their life in peace and freedom, so that extremism, racism and populism have no chance in the long run. Your entries can be posted immediately on Instagram _pics4peace_ with the hashtag #pics4peace or from October on www.pics4peace.de. There they will be available for all to see, especially decision-makers from politics and society. To ensure that what young people are calling for gets through!
