Creative cooperation of pics4peace, U&D and SJR in the Art Tent 2019
Sponsored by demokratie leben - thank you for that!
The togetherness in Europe is more and more questioned, especially by populist parties. Nationalisms are conjured up. Fears are stoked. Countries are drifting apart. The fact that Europe was once founded to secure peace seems to have been forgotten. Pia Beckmann and Ralf Duggen think that things can't go on like this. They have developed a concept that invites people to think about Europe and express their thoughts at U&D 2019. There are plenty of ways to get involved:
ART Exhibition "pittura oscura" in the Art Tent by pics4peace
Throughout the festival, there will be an exhibition of 2-meter-high paintings hung from the ceiling of the tent. Young artists, following the technique of the Berlin Artist Winfried Muthesius, have thought about what they want to change in our society. Multi-layered large-format artworks have been created, which bring together action art, painting and photography and, superimposed on each other, roll up their own theme from the past, through the present, to a perspective into the future. They deal, for example, with the abuse of power, the question of the norm, freedom of expression in an increasingly digitalized world, violence against women, environmental and animal protection, and much more. In between, there are text panels explaining what the young artists were thinking. The combination of image and text leaves no one cold.We are excited to see what particularly moves you in the exhibition. Let's talk about it there.
Social Media 0.1 project
On pics4peace pillars that the "Leerraumpioniere" have built for us, you can see above, provocative contributions by eight German artists on the theme "Together in Europe? Together in Europe!". They formulate visually, e.g. as a comic, illustration, graphic work, poster or photograph, their statement on Europe. Some of them are pretty fierce! So it's not out of the question that you want to say something about it.
The Nuremberg Cabaret Artist and Caricaturist Gymmick, the Professor of Design Gertrud Nolte, the Illustrator Romina Birzer, the Graphic Designers Marina Breitschaft from the LeerraumPioniere and Uli Spitznagel, the Photographer Kathrin Königl, the Communication Designer Lina Lutz as well as Katha Schmidt and Ralf Duggen from U&D participated with a joint work.
The eight images are mounted around two pics4peace columns. Under each image, an endless paper scroll opens up, which can be "scrolled" up and down by hand. Just like on the social media channels, anyone can post their opinion on the statements here; only with a pen and paint.
Creative Europe Workshop
On Sunday, June 23, at 3 p.m., a creative Europe workshop will take place in the art tent, to which pics4peace, the U&D and the Stadtjugendring invite you. It will be led by Anna, 18, who has just finished school! Congratulations! She wants to think with you about questions like these, for example, and about what else is on your mind: How are we going to solve global challenges, like climate change, for example, if we batten down the hatches and don't think and look outside the box? How can peaceful coexistence in Europe succeed if populists and extremists engage in fear-mongering? How can we orient ourselves when the news situation is becoming increasingly difficult to keep track of and information is being deliberately manipulated? How well do we actually know our European neighbors? How can we get to know each other better, talk to each other, find solutions to existing problems? Without verbal and physical violence! How to preserve freedom of speech and democracy? What can each individual do to achieve this? "It's about finding answers together, in words and pictures, and thinking about what everyone can do so that something changes," says Anna and is already looking forward to you!
Today at the PreOpening we will see if there is anything left to do. But then it will have to be done quickly. Because tomorrow the big U&D Music Festival begins. With you? That would be cool! Your opinion is important to us.
